Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service is searching for dynamic individuals to undertake posts at Station Manager B. These posts are conditioned to the flexible duty system.
We are looking for managers who have excellent leadership qualities, high levels of resilience, excellent interpersonal skills and who can demonstrate strong team working and commitment to their own development.
To be successful, you will need to demonstrate your leadership skills, a desire to deliver results and a wholehearted commitment to Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service’s ambitions. We need people who can demonstrate and understand the bigger issues affecting the Service and who are willing to work hard as part of a team, with the ability to motivate others in support of our objectives.
Applications are invited from
- Substantive Station Managers at either Scale ‘A’ or ‘B’ who are currently serving with a UK Fire Authority.
- Substantive and competent Wholetime Duty System Watch Manager who are currently serving with a UK Fire Authority.
The selection process will involve three stages, and applicants will be required to successfully complete each element in order to progress their application.

- Level 2 Incident Command Assessment and Case Study
- Interview Stage with Presentation
- Candidates will deliver a 15 minute presentation on a work related topic that will be provided on the date of interview, with time allocated to prepare.
- Panel interview will follow presentation, to assess ability to perform the role and responsiblities, and to explore leadership qualities.
Applicants must be able to demonstrate on the application form how they believe their skills and experience match the Station Manager Essential / Desirable Criteria document.
All substantive at the role/scale of Station Manager B are conditioned to the Flexible Duty System (FDS). Officers conditioned to the FDS system must provide a cover base in accordance with the provisions of Service Order V10 12/3 Flexible Duty System (FDS) Standby/Call Out Base.
Relocation assistance may be available to the successful candidate (details available on request). Successful candidates will be required to serve at any location in the Service.
You will be required to gain pre-employment clearances, including a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance and pass a Service Medical and Fitness Test before appointment will be offered. Successful applicants will be required to undertake a probationary period of 6 months and those successful on promotion will also be required to satisfactorily complete the Station Manager Development Programme.
