Residential sprinkler systems are particularly useful if there is someone in your household who finds it hard to get about and would struggle to leave the house quickly. They are also useful if there are very young children your home.
Sprinklers are not difficult, unsightly or expensive to install in homes and no one in the UK has ever died in a building fire with a working sprinkler system.
Losses from fires in buildings protected with Sprinklers or Automatic Water Suppression Systems (AWSS) are estimated to be 1/10 of those in unprotected buildings. 99% of fires were controlled by sprinklers alone and 60% of fires were controlled by the spray from no more than four sprinkler heads.
Sprinkler systems do not normally actuate during a false alarm, they will only normally operate in the event of an actual fire. If there is a fire only the sprinkler heads in the vicinity of the fire actually operate. Following an incident sprinkler heads can be completely resealed.
