Safety standards for rented accommodation

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) works closely with Local Authorities and private landlords in Bedford, Luton and Central Bedfordshire to improve fire safety standards in the rented residential accommodation sector and in particular Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs).

To help landlords protect their tenants and their property we have prepared some local guidance which is contained in our Supplementary Guide to Fire Safety Standards for Residential Properties in Bedfordshire.

Further guidance by LACORS, the organisation co-ordinating local authority regulators can be found in Housing - Fire Safety: Guidance on Fire Safety provisions for certain types of existing housing.

We have also produced examples of a Fire Risk Assessment for a Rented Property.
