Fire in the open - Hockcliffe

At 2.15pm today (30), crews from Luton, Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and Toddington attended a grass fire on the A5 in Hockcliffe. The fire had spread to undergrowth, involving approximately six acres of grass and undergrowth.

Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used three hose reels and beaters to extinguish the fire.

We are urging the public to avoid using flammable substances such as weed killers during this period of extremely hot and dry weather, as conditions mean fires can start easily and spread rapidly.
