Details of incidents attended by Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service
At 6.02am on Thursday (11) two crews from Bedford and one crew from Kempston were called to a a derelict building fire in Spenser Road, Bedford. The fire was in the ground and basement level of the two storey building and measured approximately 15m x 10m. There was 20% fire damage and 100% smoke damage to the basement level, 20% fire damage and 100% smoke damage to the ground floor and 100% smoke damage to the first floor.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reel jets, a safety jet, a covering jet, a triple extension ladder, hydraulic spreaders and power tools to extinguish the fire. Post fire ventilation was used to help remove the smoke.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
At 1.39pm on Thursday (11) a crew from Ampthill and a crew from Toddington were called to a fire caused by unattended cooking in a ground floor flat in St Marks Close, Flitwick. The fire measured approximately 20m x 10m.
Firefighters extinguished the fire and used positive pressure ventilation equipment to clear the smoke.
The cause of the fire was accidental.
At 6.48pm on Thursday (11) a crew from Bedford was called to several small seats of fire set in Stevenson Walk, Wootton.
Firefighters used backpack sprayers to extinguish the fires.
The cause of the fires was deliberate.
