Fire Risk Data Warehouse project shortlisted for a NFCC Excellence in Data Award

The Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue (BFRS) team behind a Fire Risk Data Warehouse (FRDW) project has been shortlisted for a National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC) Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) Excellence in Data Award.
The FRDW generates a ‘total building risk score’ for all premises that the Fire Safety Order applies to. This score is calculated by combining data from several published sources with 13 risk factors for an individual building.
This enables buildings to be categorised as high, medium or low risk, and supports the prioritised targeting of protection activity.
Group Commander, Protection at BFRS, Mark Garrett, said: “The FRDW has enabled us to have holistic view of premises risk and a more efficient process for generating a risk-based interventions programme. Using the identified data sources and scoring system, we can confidently plan the work of our specialist and non-specialist staff based upon potential risk and known risk.
“By maintaining a comprehensive record of all known buildings with its risk score assigned and enhanced data validation, we now have enhanced assurance that higher risk premises have been identified.”
The NFCC DDaT awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of DDaT activity in fire and rescue services. Winners will be announced on Tuesday 1 July 2025.
