Residents reminded to be prepared ahead of weather warnings

The Met Office has issued yellow and amber weather warnings for Bedfordshire, with heavy rainfall anticipated in the early hours of Saturday (19 July) and thunderstorms throughout the weekend.
Group Commander Lee Slipanczewski said: “There is a chance of surface water flooding, so if you know you are at risk of flooding, please be prepared and take measures to protect yourself and your home.
“When a lot of rain falls over a short period of time, it can often result in surface water flooding and flooded roads. Please don’t drive through flood water; you do not know how deep it is, and we don’t want anyone putting their lives at risk by driving through and getting stuck.”
Thunderstorms and heavy rainfall can often result in a busy period for the fire service. Residents are advised to only dial 999 for fire service support if there is a risk to life.
