Equality, Diversity and Inclusion

We have a number of staff networks that colleagues and allies are encouraged to join. The Servcie also works with a number of organisations to support its commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Asian Fire Service Association (AFSA)

BFRS is a member of the Asian Fire Service Association (AFSA) and works closely with the association in order to promote equality in the fire and rescue services. AFSA is an independent, inclusive, employee-led support group with the aim to raise the profile of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic issues in the fire and rescues services.

Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion (ENEI)

BFRS is a member of Employers Network for Equality and Inclusion (ENEI). They are a leading employer network promoting equality and inclusion in the workplace.  ENEI covers all the nine protected characteristics with specific objectives to influence government, business, and trade unions.

Neurodiversity in Business (NiB)

Neurodiversity in Business (NiB) is a business-led forum functioning as an industry group for organisations to share industry good practice on ND recruitment, retention, and empowerment.  Their vision is to foster a corporate environment where neurodivergent people are understood and form an invaluable part of the work culture.

 

Women in the Fire Service

BFRS is a member of Women in the Fire Service UK who help fire and rescue services to develop a culture of equality of support all women in achieving their full potential. Read more about Daisy Byron, who recently received the 'Bright Light Award' in the Women in the Fire Service Awards 2023.

We also have a number of staff networks that colleagues and allies are encouraged to join. Staff Networks aim to provide support for staff, to promote a diverse and inclusive workplace and provide a voice for staff on issues covered by the Equality Act 2010.

The Staff Networks include:

  • LGBTQ+ and Allies for employees who identify as: Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Trans, Queer and Questioning, Intersex.

  • Workplace Adjustments for employees supporting equal access in the workplace for physical and hidden disabilities.

  • Women in FRS 

  • Mental Health Working Group
